1. Our commitment

P31 Labs, Inc. is a nonprofit founded on the principle that technology should be accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals. Accessibility is not a compliance checkbox for us — it is core to our mission.

Our design tokens use Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface specifically designed for low-vision readers. Our dark-mode color scheme targets sufficient contrast ratios on text and interactive elements. We use semantic HTML heading hierarchies, descriptive link text, and keyboard-accessible navigation on new static deliverables.

We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance on all new static pages published to p31ca.org. We measure this against WCAG 2.1 — the stable, widely-adopted W3C standard for web content accessibility.

2. Current conformance status

Conformance claim: Partial conformance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This means some parts of the content do not fully conform to the standard. The specific limitations are described in Section 3 below.

Applies to: Static HTML pages published at p31ca.org under our design system (Atkinson Hyperlegible, JetBrains Mono, P31 dark token set).

What we have done

Semantic heading hierarchy (h1 → h2 → h3) on all new static pages.
All meaningful images include descriptive alt text; decorative images use alt="".
Color is not used as the sole means of conveying information on new deliverables.
Focus indicators are visible on keyboard-navigable elements (Tailwind focus-visible ring).
Text contrast ratio: our primary body text (text-cloud on bg-void) targets at least 4.5:1. Interactive links and nav items target at least 3:1 against their background.
Language declared in <html lang="en">.
Skip-to-main-content links will be added to pages with extensive navigation as they are built.
The Cognitive Passport generator is entirely client-side, uses labeled form controls, and is operable by keyboard.

3. Known limitations

The following known limitations exist as of the effective date. We are working to address them.

BONDING 3D builder (bonding.p31ca.org) — The 3D molecular visualization (React Three Fiber / WebGL canvas) does not have a screen-reader-accessible text alternative for the rendered molecular structure. Keyboard navigation within the 3D canvas is limited. This is a known gap for users who rely on screen readers or cannot use a mouse/pointer device for 3D manipulation. We are tracking an accessible data-table fallback for molecular data as a future feature.
Legacy demo pages — Older prototype and demo pages (including some Worker status and mesh visualization pages) were not built to the current design system and may have contrast ratios below WCAG AA, missing alt text, or incomplete keyboard operability. These pages are not considered production deliverables under our accessibility bar.
Reduced-motion — Some animated UI elements do not currently respond to the prefers-reduced-motion media query. We are adding this support to new components.
Skip navigation — Skip-to-content links are not yet present on all pages. They are being added as pages are updated or newly published.
Mobile touch targets — Some navigation links in the top nav bar may fall below the 44×44 CSS pixel target size on small-screen devices. We are reviewing and correcting these.

4. Feedback and reporting a barrier

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on any P31 Labs surface, we want to know about it. We cannot guarantee a specific timeline, but we will log every report and prioritize fixes on production pages.

The URL of the page or feature where you hit the barrier.
A description of what you were trying to do and what happened instead.
The browser and version you were using.
If applicable, the assistive technology you were using (for example: NVDA 2024.1, VoiceOver iOS 17, JAWS 2025).

If the barrier prevents you from completing a task and you need an accessible alternative right now, tell us that in your message. We will do our best to provide the information or functionality in an alternative format.

5. Assistive technology tested

New static pages are spot-checked against the following combinations before publication. We are a small team; formal third-party audits have not yet been conducted.

NVDA (latest stable) with Firefox on Windows 11 — primary screen reader test.
VoiceOver with Safari on macOS — secondary test for new content pages.
Keyboard-only navigation (Chrome, Firefox) — tab order, focus visibility, form submission.
Windows High Contrast mode — checked for focus ring and icon visibility.
200% browser zoom — layout reflow and text legibility.

We have not conducted formal testing with TalkBack (Android) or Switch Access. Reports from users of those technologies are especially welcome.

6. Third-party content

Some content or functionality on our surfaces is provided by third parties and may not be fully under our control:

Tailwind CSS (CDN) — Loaded from cdn.tailwindcss.com. We configure Tailwind via our design token extension; the CSS output is under our control.
Google Fonts — Font files from fonts.googleapis.com. The typefaces themselves (Atkinson Hyperlegible, JetBrains Mono) were selected in part for legibility; however, the font loading mechanism is third-party.
Stripe Checkout — The donation flow redirects to Stripe’s hosted checkout page, which is governed by Stripe’s accessibility policy. We do not control that page’s conformance.
Cloudflare challenge pages — If Cloudflare presents a CAPTCHA or challenge, that UI is controlled by Cloudflare. We are aware that CAPTCHA presents accessibility challenges; we have not configured mandatory CAPTCHA challenges on standard visitor flows.
